A ‘monster’ appears at the Dakar 2022, the electric Audi RS Q e-tron displaces everyone and wins a stage

Cars News

The Audi RS Q e-tron created quite a stir at the 2022 Dakar, as it was the first electric car to win a stage in the toughest race in the world. It took everyone by surprise because no one imagined that this vehicle would be so competitive. But the Spaniard Carlos Sainz managed to take him to first place, at least in one of the twelve sets that make up the race in Saudi Arabia. The car is making history and was designed by an Argentine, Juan Manuel Díaz. The car is the big bet of the German company that aspires to develop electric motorization. What better test bench than in sports competitions where the company has often achieved great successes when it participated internationally? The Audi RS Q e-tron is equipped with a complex hybrid system, where three electric motors derived from the Formula E e-tron FE07 single-seaters (one for each axle and a third acting as a generator for charging the battery) are ” aided ”by a 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine used in the DTM, which performs the function of“ range extender ”. The battery, developed in collaboration with a specialized partner, which weighs about 370 kg, has a capacity of 50 kWh and is recharged while driving thanks to the action of the thermal range extender. Overall, the power delivered by the system is 680 hp.
