A little less than a year ago it was presented in the form of a concept, under the name of CE 04 Definition, and is now ready to debut on the market in its final form. Meanwhile, the new BMW electric scooter has lost the only word of its denomination by settling for an abbreviation. “This is our new electric star for the city. It combines zero-emission driving with thrill and fun on the bike, using the latest technology and the best battery cells, the same as the BMW iX. Just like the CE 04, all future new BMW Motorrad models for urban mobility will be purely electric, ”said BMW CEO Oliver Zipse, paving the way for the future. The design of the BMW CE 04 is absolutely original, different from what has been seen so far on any two-wheeled vehicle.
As for the technical part, however, the permanent magnet electric motor is liquid cooled and is installed between the batteries and the rear wheel. It has 42 HP, a power comparable to that of a traditional maxi-scooter; BMW declares that the CE 04 only needs 2.6 seconds to sprint from 0 to 50 km / h, offering excellent starting points from the traffic light. There is also a version weakened to 31 HP to make it fall into the 125 cc category and therefore make it drivable already with a B license. In both cases the maximum speed is 120 km / h, while the autonomy is 130 km. in the first case and 100 km in the second, thanks to the 8.9 kWh lithium-ion battery. According to the Bavarian house, it is what is needed for two days of commuting without recharging or for a trip out of town.
By the way, the accumulators support up to 2.3 kW of charging power, which can be extended to 6.9 kW with the optional charger. In this case, one hour and forty minutes rather than four hours and twenty minutes is enough to fill up with energy. As for the driving dynamics, a traditional fork with 35 mm stanchions and a single-sided swingarm with single shock absorber are attached to the tubular steel frame. The rims are 15-inch, with 120/70 tires at the front and 160/60 at the rear. The braking system has two discs at the front and one at the rear and is obviously equipped with ABS; then there are the electronic controls and three riding modes: Eco, Rain and Road. The instrumentation uses a 10.25-inch display and includes both navigation and extended connectivity with its own brand. To get it, we will have to wait at least until the end of the year and it will cost no less than 12,550 euros.
