C40 Recharge, the first all-electric Volvo

Today’s will go down in the news as a historic day for Volvo, not only because the manufacturer has announced that it will only produce electric cars starting from 2030 but also because, at the same time, the new C40 Recharge, the first Volvo born 100% electric. The car is a coupe version of the XC40 and uses the CMA platform, suitably adapted to the needs of the local zero-emission powertrain.


“The C40 Recharge represents Volvo’s future and clearly indicates where we are going,” said Henrik Green, chief technology officer: “It is fully electric, it is only offered online with a convenient service package and will be available for quick delivery. Buying a new Volvo has never been so tempting ”. The C40 Recharge, which is 443cm long, will go into production this fall and will be built alongside the XC40 Recharge at the Volvo Cars plant in Ghent, Belgium.

This project, the first ever to be conceived as purely electric, will lead the way to other models on tap. In fact, already by 2025 the Swedish house aspires to do that 50% of its vehicles sold are electric, while the remainder will consist of hybrid models. The ecological spirit of the car is also evident inside, completely leather-free, that is free from animal skin. The infotelematic system uses Android Automotive complete with Google services, while the trunk has a capacity of 413 liters.


On a mechanical level, the vehicle uses a propulsion system with two electric motors (for a power of 408 HP, good to cover the “0-100” in 4.9 seconds), one on the front axle and one on the rear, powered by a 78 kWh battery of capacity, which can be charged to 80% in about 40 minutes using the fast columns. Autonomystill in the homologation phase, should be around 420 km; as it will, according to Volvo, improve over time thanks to updates to the car management software, which will be destroyed over-the-air.

In addition, the C40 Recharge will be can only be ordered online; dealers will take care of maintenance, delivery and service. The price It has not yet been made official but to get an idea just think that the 100% electric XC40 Recharge, which has a very similar mechanical setting, is in the price list at 59,600 euros.
