Car of the Year 2022, the Kia EV6 wins

Cars News

The Car of the Year 2022 is the Kia EV6, elected by an international jury made up of 61 journalists from all over Europe. This year, among the seven finalists (selected from an initial shortlist of 39 cars), six were battery-powered cars. The Korean electric earned a total of 279 points, 14 more than the second-placed Renault Mégane E-Tech, and 18 more than the third, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (with which it shares most of the technologies, given that Kia is a brand of Hyundai).

It is the first time that a Kia has triumphed in this fierce competition, born in 1964, as well as the first time that a Korean brand has reached the top step of the Car of the Year. The proclamation of the winner took place in Geneva, a city which was orphaned of its famous Motor Show, which ended up among the illustrious victims of the pandemic. Fourth place for the Peugeot 308 (with 191 points), the only one among the finalists to be powered by a thermal engine or, alternatively, a rechargeable hybrid. Fifth position for the Skoda Enyaq (185 points), which preceded the Ford Mustang Mach-E (150 points) and the Cupra Born (144 points).
