Who knows that in the future the famous Volkswagen Passat will not be able to leave the baton to the ID. Aero, the first electron-based interpretation of the classic hatchback by VW: on paper it is still a prototype, but in practice it is ready to enter the assembly lines.
The technical basis is that of the other models of the ID family – all equipped with an electric propulsion system -, namely the Meb platform. About 5 meters long, it will initially be marketed in China, starting from the second half of 2023, and then gradually arrive on Western markets.
«With the ID. Aero, we preview the next member of the family. A car with an exciting and at the same time extremely aerodynamic design, equipped with an extraordinary amount of space and a premium interior, “says Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of the Volkswagen brand in an official note:” With our ‘Accelerate’ strategy, we are pursuing intensely electrification of our model range. After the ID.4, this model will be our next global car for Europe, China and the United States ».
His ace in the hole? Particularly accurate aerodynamics, which allows it an estimated autonomy of around 620 km. To power everything there is a 77 kWh battery, also common to the other models of the ID line. Further details on prices and equipment – as well as on the interior architecture – will be released in the coming months.
