Jeep, the Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid arrive

Cars News

The electrification process of the Jeep brand continues quickly: the latest “electrified” models to make their debut are the new hybrid versions, rather than “e-Hybrid”, of Renegade and Compass. Editions that come in the wake of the plug-in hybrid variants – that is, rechargeable on tap – branded “4xe”, which were also the best-selling in Italy in 2021. The new hybrids offer up to 15% less consumption and emissions than the previous petrol models and dealership orders open today in Italy, France and Germany; other European markets will follow shortly.

The heart of the new Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid is a hybrid powertrain that exploits the synergy between a 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine – 1.5 liters, which delivers 130 HP of maximum power and 240 Nm of torque – and an engine electric 20 HP and 55 Nm (equivalent to 135 Nm at the gearbox input level), also used to transmit motion to the wheels when the thermal engine is off.

The whole is orchestrated by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The hybrid system allows fully electric travel when starting, at low speeds, while cruising and when parking. However, everything is subject to the state of charge of the battery and the demand for power.

“Today’s announcement is the result of the success of our current 4xe plug-in-hybrid portfolio, and is another step towards the complete electrification of our entire range in Europe,” said Antonella Bruno, Head of Jeep Brand in an official statement. in Europe: “The Jeep Compass and Renegade e-Hybrid SUVs represent a new entry point into our electrified offering, offering more hybrid options to our customers. This expansion of the range will continue in the summer of this year with the introduction of the 4xe version of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee ”.

Similarly to what happens with other hybrid models, the mechanics recover energy (which would otherwise be wasted) while the car decelerates and brakes; in addition, the electric motor increases the torque to the wheels, supporting the petrol engine; by calibrating the torque (driving or braking) delivered by the electric motor, it is then possible to optimize the operating point of the petrol engine. Finally, together with the e-Hybrids, the special “Upland” edition also debuts, which stands out for some unique aesthetic details and for the use of sustainable materials and ecological paints and finishes; it will also be available on Renegade and Compass 4xe Plug-in-Hybrid models.
