Double celebration at the Quirinale for the Lancia brand which celebrates 115 years of history and at the same time 60 years since the production of the special car Flaminia for the President of the Republic. “A special day for our brand and for our country and this double celebration fills us with pride – says Luca Napolitano, CEO of Lancia – a company that has produced beautiful cars, the result of the creative ingenuity of many engineers and designers, with a timeless style and standard-bearer of Italy all over the world. ” The Lancia brand was founded in Turin on November 27, 1906 by Vincenzo Lancia and Claudio Fogolin, both Fiat employees and car enthusiasts. Vincenzo was already well known in the automotive world, thanks to several sporting victories obtained behind the wheel of Fiat cars.
The first car produced in 1908 was the Lancia 12 HP, a decidedly unconventional car for the time. Many cars have been produced over the course of the century and among them the debut of the Lancia Flaminia, which takes place in 1957 at the Geneva Motor Show: a high-class flagship, equipped with a 2.5-liter V6 engine, luxurious interiors and finishes. The Lancia Flaminia was soon enriched with special versions, made by body builders and, in 1961, Pinin Farina created the presidential long-wheelbase convertible, called “335”, an abbreviation that indicated the measurement of the wheelbase in centimeters. The car was used for the first time by President Giovanni Gronchi on the occasion of the visit to Italy of Queen Elizabeth II of England.
