Cars News

Chinese debut for the new Mercedes EQB: the 100% electric-powered SUV is among the most important innovations of the Shanghai 2021 Motor Show. the latter shares much of the exterior design and interior layout, designed to accommodate up to seven passengers (those in the third row, however, are suitable for passengers up to 165 cm tall). The load capacity varies from 495 to 1,710, folding down the back of the rear bench, and from 465 to 1,620 liters, respectively for the five and seven-seater versions. For Europe, the car will be produced at the Kecskemét plant in Hungary and launched by the end of 2021.

“China is not only the most important sales region for our passenger cars, but also the world’s leading market for electric cars,” explains Hubertus Troska, member of the board of directors of Daimler AG and responsible for all activities for China: “We are very excited to introduce the all-electric EQB for the very first time here in China. With its seven seats, EQB meets the needs of families. In addition to the right products, one of the deciding factors of sustainable growth in China is our footprint determined by local production ”. In fact, the EQB for the People’s Republic will be assembled by the Beijing Benz Automotive (Bbac) joint venture, signed by Mercedes and the Baic group.

As with all electric Mercedes, the front grille has no slits, which are instead necessary for models with thermal engines: thus improving aerodynamics and overall efficiency. To distinguish the EQB and GLB is also provided by the rear lights, which on the electric have a full width development. The interiors, on the other hand, retain the layout of the latest compact-sized Mercedes, with two screens dedicated to instrumentation and infotelematics that stand out at the top of the dashboard.

“With EQB we have designed an iconic electric SUV, which takes the square shapes of our offroads and projects them into the future. We combined its silhouette with futuristic elements such as the Black Panel front, giving the car its out of the ordinary look, ”says Gorden Wagener, head of design for the Daimler Group. In Europe, customers will be able to choose between different versions of the EQB, with front or all-wheel drive and various power levels, up to over 200 kW. The useful capacity of the batteries is equal to 66.5 kWh, with an approved range of 419 km. The car is compatible with 100 kW charging, which allows you to go from 10% to 80% of the battery capacity in 30 minutes.
