Mercedes VISION EQXX, here is the most efficient electric ever built

Cars News

The electron future of Mercedes passes through the Vision EQXX, a battery-powered prototype presented at CES 2022, the most important American fair dedicated to consumer electronics. A vehicle that aims to redefine the architecture and philosophy of electric cars as we know them today, focusing above all on efficiency. The most important figure? That of autonomy, equal to about 1,000 km on a single charge.

Thanks to a record average consumption, thanks to very advanced aerodynamics (at the front, there are even bulkheads that open and close according to the cooling needs of the mechanics), of 10 kWh per 100 km. A result achieved through technical features such as the very light “closed” magnesium rims, rubberized with low rolling resistance tires or the carbon and reinforced plastic doors. However, the particular shape of the car, very tapered, also does a lot.

“The Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX is how we envision the future of electric cars,” explains Ola Källenius, chairman of the board of directors of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG in an official statement: “Only a year and a half ago we started this project which resulted in the most efficient Mercedes-Benz ever built ”and“ uses a battery that would fit even in a compact vehicle. The VISION EQXX is an advanced car in so many dimensions and it even has a striking and futuristic look. With this, he underlines where our whole company is headed: we will build the most desired electric cars in the world ”.

The interior also leaves your mouth open, where an immense 47.5-inch touchscreen with 8k resolution stands out, dedicated to instrumentation and infotelematics. The eco-compatibility of the vehicle, then, also goes through the materials with which the passenger compartment is made, all sustainable and recycled: even, the upholstery derives from the processing of cacti and the leather of the seats is vegan, coming from fungi.

Another record number is related to weight: about 1,750 kg, as much as a homologous thermal engine car and several hundred kilograms less than an electric car of a similar size. The secret of the relatively low mass is all hidden in the 100 kWh battery, 50% smaller and 30% lighter when compared to a battery-pack of equal capacity (weighs 495 kg). Finally, on the roof there is a photovoltaic system which alone guarantees 25 km of autonomy. The engine? A 204 hp unit, connected to the rear traction wheels.
