The new edition of the Toyota Aygo X – read “Aygo Cross” – is completely new and raises the challenge to an A segment, that of city cars, less and less frequented by the competition, which prefers to focus on more profitable models. A tempting opportunity for the Japanese giant which, thanks to a “no frills” mechanics (ie without electrification), promises to keep the price competitive. The shapes are those, bold, seen on the Aygo X Prologue concept and play with colors and volumes to not go unnoticed.
Based on the TNGA-B build platform, the same as the larger and more expensive Yaris and Yaris Cross ”, Aygo X stands out for its bi-tone color scheme with black roof and rear portion. The line of the pavilion is more slender than in the past and, on request, there is also a canvas sunroof. The full LED headlights (optional) connect to the bonnet forming a wing profile, while the daytime running and cornering lights, consisting of two light bands, emphasize the aesthetic signature of the model. The 18 “wheels? They contribute to the overall scenic impact.

Let’s talk about measures: the length has gone from 3.46 meters of the previous version to the current 3.70, the wheelbase has increased from 2.34 to 2.43 meters. Inside the dashboard and console details match the exterior colors, the front seats are more comfortable than ever before and the shoulder room increased by 45mm. The load capacity is growing, which now reaches a total of 231 liters from the previous 171.

The raised driving position, which the market likes so much, is one of the trump cards of the Japanese: and if the ground clearance is 11 millimeters higher than before, the seat surface has been raised by 5.5 centimeters. On board, connectivity is guaranteed by the Toyota Smart Connect system, with 9 ” touchscreen, complete with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and upgradeable Over The Air (there is also wireless charging for the mobile phone). The sound system was created in collaboration with JBL: it includes a set of four speakers, an amplifier and a subwoofer.

Standard is Toyota Safety Sense, a safety package that uses a camera and radar to detect vehicles and activate the Pre-Collision System (PCS) more quickly. Road user recognition, intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, road intersection support, lane keeping and emergency steering assistance make their debut.

Under the hood is confirmed the three-cylinder engine of one liter of cubic capacity and 72 HP of power, improved to comply with European emissions regulations and which is capable of a declared fuel consumption of 4.7 l / 100 km. The vehicle will be marketed from spring 2022 and a limited edition of Aygo X in Cardamom Green will be available for the first months of sale, with Mandarina Orange interior and matt black alloy wheels. Prices still to be defined but, by way of reference, the current Aygo is offered starting from 15 thousand euros.
