Nissan X-Trail, debut for the new generation

Cars News

Grab a Nissan Qashqai, add some muscle and inches, mix … et voila, here is the new X-Trail. No, designing new models is not that simple, unfortunately for manufacturers. Especially if the vehicles in question are also best sellers, called to reconfirm themselves: in fact, with 20 years of history behind it and over 7 million units sold worldwide, the X-Trail is a car that Nissan cannot afford to go wrong. .

This is why the recipe for the fourth generation of the Japanese SUV relies heavily on electrified design and technology to relaunch its challenge to the crowded sport utility segment. Its aces up its sleeve are the cabin, with 5 or 7 seats, and the hybrid “e-Power” technology.

As happened for the Qashqai, the generational leap is equivalent to the achievement of quality standards never touched before. And just take a peek into the passenger compartment to realize it: the quality of materials and finishes is growing inside. At the level of the central tunnel there is the selector for the driving programs and that of the automatic transmission. While in the center of the dashboard there is a 12.3 ”display dedicated to infotelematics. Another, of the same size, replaces the old analogue tacho instrumentation.

On request, a 10.8-inch head-up, which projects the main driving information on the windshield, in the driver’s field of vision. There are also practicalities such as the bench of the sliding rear bench – which allows you to give more space to passengers or luggage depending on the circumstances of use as well as allow access to the third row of seats, optional – and the rear door with electric opening, which provides access to a 585-liter luggage compartment.

We come to mechanics. The only engine available is the e-Power hybrid: traction is entrusted to an electric motor, while the thermal, a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, acts as a power generator and feeds the powertrain battery. The power is 204 HP, while the torque is 330 Nm. The four-wheel drive versions boast a second electric engine that powers the rear axle: in this case the system power is 213 HP. Four versions, with prices starting from 38,080 euros.
