Ok for the environment, safety rejected: the crash test of the Renault Zoe electric car for Euro Ncap is zero stars

Cars News

Following the sixth and final round of 2021, the safety ratings that emerged after the crash-tests carried out by Euro Ncap were disclosed. The maximum score of 5 stars was obtained by seven out of eleven vehicles tested: Mercedes EQS, Bmw iX, Genesis G70 and GV70, Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Fabia and Volkswagen Caddy. Four stars for the electric New Fiat 500 and MG Marvel R. Only one star for the Dacia Spring, zero stars for the Renault Zoe. The electric flagship of the Star, the Mercedes Eqs, is one of the queens of this Euro Ncap test series with 5 stars. It has achieved excellent scores in occupant protection in almost all tests and boasts a complete and effective Adas equipment. Also for the electric SUV BMW iX maximum score of 5 stars for having easily passed all the tests. In particular, it is the lateral protection of the occupants that has been particularly effective. It completes the range of driver assistance systems, including monitoring of the driver’s psycho-physical state. The new electric models G70 and GV70 from Genesis, the premium brand of Hyundai, also get 5 stars. The Nissan Qashqai, gasoline and hybrid-gasoline, is the other queen of this test series. Five stars and excellent scores in all tests: highest rating of the ADAS systems and highest score for the lane keeping system. Excellent scores in all tests, with excellence in the side impact tests and in the protection of children on board. Complete the equipment of the Adas, including the monitoring of the psycho-physical state of the driver. The new electric Fiat 500 performed brilliantly, winning 4 stars. It does not reach the maximum score for some critical issues. The MG Marvel R with electric motor, gets 4 stars and good results in all tests. Weak protection of the chest, pelvis and neck in some impacts. The operation of the automatic emergency braking system is also marginal. The Dacia Spring, one of the most accessible electric models on the market, only stops at 1 star due to poor chest, skull and neck protection and the difficulty in opening the doors after impact. Even the provision of driver assistance systems, evaluated at a basic level, strongly penalized the final evaluation. The revamped Renault Zoe does not get a single star for the low occupant protection rating on board and the poor availability of driver assistance systems. Strong criticalities for the weak protection of the femur, thorax, neck and head of both the occupants and the children. ADAS systems are available only as options, but have not been evaluated according to the Euro Ncap protocol.
