In a few days, at the resumption of the Formula E world championship – now in its eighth edition and featuring battery-powered single-seaters – there will be a new safety car on the track: it is the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, which will make its official debut on January 28, 2022, in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, where the first race of the season is scheduled.
The car has a livery that “summarizes” all the colors of the eleven teams involved in the series, but also those of the FIA, which sponsors the whole. Compared to a normal Porsche Taycan Turbo S road, the one that acts as a safety car includes a safety cage – protects the occupants in the event of the vehicle overturning -, racing seats with six-point belts, additional lighting at the bumper level and a flashing light bar on the roof.
Inside, it was equipped with a fire extinguisher and a dedicated communication system. The mechanics, on the other hand, have remained unchanged, delivering 761 hp of maximum power, the same ones that allow the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 260 km / h. To keep these numbers at bay will be Bruno Correia, former driver of the Formula E safety cars.
