The updated Subaru Outback will arrive in Italian dealerships in March and with an extra gear. That’s not a joke: the continuously variable seven-speed Lineartronic automatic transmission has gained one speed, the octave. The first deliveries to customers in the beautiful country are scheduled for mid-April.
The sixth generation of the model measures 4.87 meters in length, which is 5 centimeters longer than before. The winners are not only the passengers (those traveling in the second row have 6 millimeters more legroom), but also the luggage compartment, extended by 24 millimeters (up to 1,822 liters of capacity).
The offer of the model is divided into three versions: Style (which replaces the Free), 4Dventure (instead of 4Dvanced) and Premium. Depending on the version, the national branch of the house of the Pleiades aims at different customer profiles, to whom it promises benefits of 4,500, 3,500 and 5,500 euros respectively. The most off-road-oriented model is naturally the 4Dventure, characterized by a more “extreme” look. The admission price starts from 42,750 for the Style, rises to 45,000 for the 4Dventure and reaches 48,750 for the Premium.
The manufacturer presents the new Outback as a model for “knowing and experimenting without limits”. Under the bonnet, there is the four-cylinder Boxer petrol direct injection (a novelty, it wasn’t before) with a 2.5-liter 169 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. The unit is lighter than before: 90% of the components have been modified. Thanks also to the adoption, on the exhaust column, of the new Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF), the homologation is Euro 6d. Traction is naturally integral and permanent, Subaru’s patented Symmetrical AWD.
The only alternative will be offered in Italy in the aftermarket, that is with a LPG system. An interesting solution when refueling, even if – they say from the house of the Pleiades – not particularly useful in terms of reducing CO2 emissions. The maximum speed is 193 km / h, the starting point from 0 to 100 per hour takes place in 10.2 seconds and the distance in the mixed Wltp cycle is 11.6 kilometers per liter.
The sixth generation of the Outback is based on the Subaru Global Platform architecture and, among other things, ensures greater torsional (+ 70%) and front and side (+ 100%) stiffness. The award-winning EyeSight package, the device that brings together a series of assistance and safety functions, is standard (as is the 11.6 ” horizontal development screen) and has been integrated with new systems. Such as the recognition of road signs with the speed adapter, the automatic emergency steering or the Lane Centering Control, which keeps the car on track and adjusts the pace to that of the car in front.
18 ” wheels and roof bars are also part of the standard equipment. If the car is stationary their range reaches 318 kilograms, it means that adventure lovers can also set up a tent to sleep in the open air. In motion, the 4Dventure reaches 100 kg, against the 67.5 of the other two variants.
