Suzuki at Eicma 2022: here are the new V-Strom 800DE and GSX-8S

Cars News

At Eicma 2022 Suzuki has decided to drop a pair of axes, unveiling two great novelties at the Milan Show, a road enduro and a medium-engined naked bike that are born on an innovative shared platform, whose fundamental element is an unprecedented parallel twin with 270° crank mechanism. The first is called V-Strom 800DE, while the second is signed GSX-8S. The new engine has a DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder and thanks to the long stroke (70 mm) it promises progressive and linear delivery. The torque peak of 78 Nm arrives at 6,800 rpm, while the maximum power at 8,500 rpm; the figure is 83 HP for the GSX-8S and 84.3 HP for the V-Strom 800 DE.

Naturally there is Euro 5 homologation and Suzuki also underlines the consumption which varies between 4.2 (GSX-8S) and 4.4 l/100 km (V-Strom 800 DE).

As far as vibrations are concerned, Suzuki has patented the Cross Balancer which involves the use of two rocker arms positioned at 90° with respect to the crankshaft, each capable of canceling the vibrations generated by a single cylinder. The transmission features a 6-speed gearbox – the ratios vary for the two models – with assisted and slipper clutch. Then, thanks to the ride-by-wire accelerator, there are the riding modes, adjustable traction control and quick shift both uphill and downhill, as well as the start assistant. The V-Strom 800DE adds an off-road driving mode and partially disengageable ABS, given its vocation as a globetrotter, fully adjustable suspension and spoked rims, in 21” front and 17” rear sizes.

The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE is available in three colors: Petra Yellow, Berlin Gray and Dubai Black. The GSX-8S, on the other hand, has a street fighter look, with essential superstructures, but with a generous chassis. In this way the habitability is also adequate for pilots and passengers of different sizes. The suspension department relies on a massive KYB upside-down fork and a KYB monoshock operated via a progressive-type linkage from an aluminum swingarm. The 17-inch alloy wheels shod with tires in the classic 120/70 and 180/55 sizes. The braking system consists of radially mounted four-piston front calipers acting on a pair of 310 mm floating discs.

Also in this case there are three colors available: Blue Sydney, White Oslo and Black Dubai.
