The Polestar 6 roadster will be made: it will arrive in 2026

Cars News

Last July we interviewed Alexander Lutz, head of Italian operations at Polestar, the Swedish “electric” brand specializing in prestige cars, closely linked to Volvo and belonging to the Chinese group Geely. On that occasion Lutz outlined the stages of the advent of the new brand for us. The Polestar 2 midsize sedan will begin to be sold in Italy by the end of the year, when the E segment Polestar 3 SUV will also be presented, destined for sale in 2023. In 2024 the C segment crossover Polestar 4 will debut and in 2025 it will be the turn of the high-performance Polestar 5 sedan.

On that occasion we asked him for some anticipation on the spider prefigured by the O2 prototype presented in March in Los Angeles. But the answer was that, beyond the internal desire to produce a real sports car, the future of the model had not yet been defined. To make the decision, however, it took a short time, because the Scandinavian brand announced that the car, christened Polestar 6, will start arriving in 2026.

Like the O2 prototype, the Polestar 6 will be a 2 + 2 convertible with an electrically operated retractable hard top: a choice that goes against the trend of most manufacturers, who are slowly returning to the tradition of the canvas top. The line, the work of the Austrian designer Maximilian Missoni, is very sharp and continues a stylistic path that has already evolved considerably compared to that of the first Polestar creations. There are no ostentatious airfoils because the internal aerodynamics of the body have been optimized, which is made of aluminum.

The car will be equipped with two engines – one front, the other rear – for a total of 884 hp and 900 Nm, it should have over 600 km of autonomy and the electrical architecture will be at 800 volts, like that of the Porsche Taycan and Audi. e-tron GT but also of all the latest generation cars that are entering the market. The announced performances are obviously very high: 3.2 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km / h and a self-limited top speed of 250 km / h to preserve autonomy but which, given the power involved, could be much higher.

The “closed box” bookings, which require a deposit of 25 thousand euros, are open from mid-August but the first buyers, who will pay at least 200 thousand euros in total, will receive their cars in 2026. And the marketing will begin with a series special of 500 copies (apparently all already booked) called Polestar 6 LA Concept Edition characterized by 21 ” wheels with cross design that recall those of the O2 concept, special graphics, Sky blue livery and eco-leather interior.
